The 1987 visible Air blueprint

The Air Max 1 is the first sneaker where you could actually see Air. Tinker Hatfield took the idea from the Centre Pompidou in Paris: structural elements visible on the outside. The semi-visible Air unit in the heel was a break from everything Nike had made up to that point in 1987. Nearly forty years later, the silhouette is still recognizable at a glance.

OG colorways and collabs

OG Sport Red (1987) and OG Royal Blue are the foundation of the Air Max 1 line. Patta gave the model a second life with the Waves pack in colorways like Noise Aqua, Monarch and Dark Russet. Atmos Elephant (2007) and Atmos Safari are staples in serious collections. Parra Cherrywood, CLOT Kiss of Death and Master (2013) are scene favorites with lasting value. Recent releases in cream, print and multicolor keep the silhouette relevant for new generations.

Fit and size advice

The Air Max 1 fits true to size for most foot shapes. The last is slim to medium width, and the Air unit gives visible heel cushioning without making the silhouette chunky. The model works under denim, cropped pants and tailored fits. Wide feet may want to go half a size up. See the size charts for exact EU/US/UK conversions.

Laces and care

Stock laces measure 120 cm for sizes 36 to 42 and 140 cm from Size EU 42.5. For a refresh or custom look, check the Nike flat laces in 8 mm. Releases with suede panels (Atmos, Parra variants) deserve a protective spray before the first wear.
