Frank’s Story: How Outsole started as a Nike Air Max 1 project

Outsole started with a personal fascination for the Nike Air Max 1 and evolved into a specialised retailer built around authenticity, detail and long-term sneaker culture.

“On my 12th birthday, I bought my first Nike Air Max 1 with my own money. There was no hype, no resale culture and owning multiple pairs wasn’t common. Most kids wore Puma, Lacoste or K-Swiss. Air Max wasn’t the obvious choice, but for me it was instant. What started with two pairs a year quickly turned into collecting, trading and understanding the details that make a pair authentic.

To fund the obsession, I began buying and selling other sneakers. That hands-on experience in collecting, verifying and trading laid the foundation for what Outsole represents today: product knowledge built from practice, not theory.

Outsole was founded together with Bas Honders and Dennis Wegereef. The three of us turned a shared passion into a structured business focused on authentic Nike Air Max 1 sneakers and premium laces. I remain deeply grateful to Bas and Dennis for building Outsole together from the ground up.”
